Homemade Halloween costumes can be a lot of fun, sometimes even more fun than one which was bought at a large department store. Adult pirate costumes may seem like they would be hard to make from scratch, but the truth is they are one of the easiest costumes to make. And they can often be made from the old clothes you already have in your closet or clothing you can find at your local discount clothing store!
Here are a few tips and tricks you can use to make your own adult pirate costumes;
The puffy pirate shirt: This may not seem like an everyday piece of clothing, but the truth is there was a time when the peasant top was quite popular. Although you may have trouble finding this essential garment in your own closet, you will have no trouble scouring one from a discount clothing store or donation shop. Oversized womens blouses work best and if the sleeves seem too flat consider rolling up the cuffs and tying it around your forearm with a piece of leather trim or twin.
The classic pirate pants: This is probably the easiest part of a homemade pirate costume. All you'll need is a pair of pants which you don't wear anymore and a pair of scissors. Simply cut the pants off just below the knee and cut strips into the legs vertically. For an even more authentic look, scuff the fabric using sand paper, and stain randomly using a teabag.
A leather vest: This may be another bargain store find, but should not be too hard to purchase. A leather vest which is in good shape may be too expensive, try to find one which is obviously torn or is made from faux leather. The imperfections will merely add to your pirate costume's authenticity.
A bandanna: Every adult pirate costume should include a bandanna or scarf to tie either around the head or waist. Pirates often used these brightly colored strips of cloth to show allegiance to their outlawed gang or sailing crew, if you are unable to find a Shawl or a scarf can cut off the bottom of an old apron.
swashbuckling boots: And finally, adult pirate costumes, a pair of all damaged and worn torn boots. Do not worry too much work on your boots, authentic, rubber rain boots, or even an old pair of Doc Martins.
Dressing like a pirate, a lot of fun, especially when it involves the hunt for the perfect costume pieces. If you are considering the purchase of an adultpirate costume this Halloween, have a long look in your closet first. You may have all you need to transform into Black Beard at your fingertips!
